Book Wild BC ("we", "us") operates bookwildbc.ca. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We handle personal information in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and BC's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). The short version: we collect what a booking needs and nothing more, we don't sell your data, and we don't run advertising trackers.
1 · What we collect
Booking details — your name, email, phone number (optional), guest count, trip or stay dates, and any notes you add for the outfitter. Payment — processed entirely by Stripe; your card number never reaches our servers. We keep only the payment reference, amounts, and refund history. Reviews — the name and text you choose to publish. Outfitter applications — the business and contact details you submit. Technical basics — standard server logs (IP address, pages requested) kept briefly for security and debugging. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
2 · Cookies we set
Two, both first-party: a staff sign-in cookie for admin and outfitter accounts (not set for guests), and — only if you arrive through a creator's referral link — a referral cookie that remembers the code for 30 days so it can be applied to your booking. You can clear or block either in your browser; bookings work without them.
3 · How we use your information
To process and manage your booking: confirmations, payment receipts, pre-trip reminders with the meeting point, balance-due notices, and — if you start a booking but don't finish checkout — a single reminder email with a link to complete it. After your trip we may invite you (once) to review it. We'll also respond when you contact us. We don't send marketing newsletters unless you've explicitly signed up for one, and every non-essential email tells you how to stop more.
4 · Who we share it with
Your outfitter — the operator running your trip or stay receives your name, contact details, guest count and notes; they need them to run the trip and may contact you about it directly. Stripe — our payment processor (their own privacy policy applies to payment data). Our email delivery provider — to send the transactional emails above. That's the list. We do not sell or rent personal information, and we disclose it beyond this only where the law requires.
5 · Where it lives and how long
Booking records are stored on our servers and retained while your account of dealings with us remains relevant — we keep booking and payment history for at least seven years to meet Canadian tax and accounting requirements, then delete or anonymize it. Some service providers (such as Stripe or our email provider) may process data outside Canada; where they do, it is protected by their contractual and legal safeguards.
6 · Your rights
You may ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete what we're not legally required to keep. Email [email protected] and we'll respond within 30 days. If you're not satisfied with our answer, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the BC Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner.
7 · Changes and contact
If we change this policy we'll update the date above; material changes will be flagged on the site. Privacy questions go to [email protected] or the contact page.
