Bamfield

Bamfield is the kind of place people don't believe still exists: a boardwalk fishing village on the outer edge of Barkley Sound, reachable only by boat or a long gravel logging road, where the 'main street' is a wooden walkway above the tide.

The Bamfield & Alberni Inlet cruise follows the historic freight-boat route the MV Lady Rose ran for decades — down the full length of the inlet, past waterfalls and bear beaches, to the government dock in Bamfield's west side. You'll have time to walk the boardwalk, visit the marine station's neighbourhood, and grab lunch overlooking the harbour before the run home.

Bamfield also anchors some of the coast's best fishing water — and has its own boardwalk-based outfitters on the platform. The surf line off Cape Beale and the structure around Trevor Channel produce chinook all summer; many full-day charters end up working this coastline.
